Q: How many pieces is the Philly Horns?
A: The Philly Horn Band usually performs as a nine-piece group including guitar, drums, keyboards, 2 saxophones, trumpet, percussionist and six vocalists. For smaller affairs we can synthesize the horn section and play as small as a six piece. Most of the members of the group sing lead and harmony providing rich harmonies and authentic stylings.

Q: What type of music do you play?
A: We cover everything from standards and big band up to today's top 40 hits. We specialize in dance music and are happy to take your special requests.

Q: What type of events are you available for?
A: We perform at conventions, bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings, theme parties and outdoor concerts. For bar/bat mitzvahs we can bring party enhancers, D.J., and party favors.

Q: How do you control the volume?
A: We have a high-powered "state of the art" sound system for superb sound with volume levels adjusted to YOUR preference. Over the years we have noticed that the proper volume is often a concern and we make that one of our priorities. I'm sure you have experienced a party that was virtually ruined because the band was "too loud". Well, we have solved this problem by designing a unique sound system where there are no individual instrument amplifiers on stage. Instead, we go directly into one amplifier where we individually mix ourselves like a record. What we hear (on stage) is what you hear. In that way we know that we are giving you the perfect balance ("the mix") of the instruments & voices.

And the good news is that this system allows us to simply lower (to any level) the entire band volume at your request. That's right, we can be as soft as a whisper (for dinner for example), or sound like a Disco for dancing.

And remember this....when you listen to our CD, the sound that comes from your speakers is the exact sound that will come from our speakers at your party. Our sound equipment is both compact and unobtrusive. There are no individual amplifiers on stage. This means we can put eight musicians neatly on even a small bandstand, preserving the look and feel of your dining room.
Q: What are the advantages of using a live band?
A: Live music creates energy and excitement, which simply cannot be captured by recorded music. We can create a mood that will get the crowd dancing without having to pull your guests out of their seats.

Q: Will you learn a special request?
A: Usually one or two as long as you provide us with a tape or CD no later than six weeks prior to the date of your party.

Q: How does the band dress for a wedding reception?
A. The gentlemen in the band wear tuxes and our female vocalist wears formal evening attire.

Q: Can you provide music for the ceremony and/or cocktail hour?
A: Our pianist and Horn player can provide a variety of classical and new age music as well as traditional wedding music for ceremonies and jazz and Latin standards for the cocktail hour.

Q: Is it possible to view the band?
A: About once a month we play at a local club, and arrangements can usually be made to come out to a function and view the band. However, each facility has it's own guidelines. So give us a call to make arrangements in advance.
